As a youth, Gweavanar joined a gang of river pirates, and was put to work cutting the mooring lines of merchant ships at night. For a time, the work was exciting as it was dangerous. However, the call of knowledge and excitment beyond the criminal enterprise took hold of Gweavanar and he began forging his own place among his criminal companions. He became known for his ability to make those around him laugh and his ability to spin wonderous stories, and became a welcome sight among the crew. One of his mentors during this time was the notorious Captain of the Seaspray known as Tavarious. Gwev the Grand they soon called him, and he realized that his skills were meant for more than just river-smuggling and pirating. So with the farewells of his companions he set off to seek knowledge, fortune, and excitement.
